Chord Construction Workshop
Some years ago I wrote a series of articles entitled Chord Construction Workshop for Just Jazz Guitar Magazine. The concepts were really nothing new, but consisted mainly of synthesizing ideas I’d picked up over the years through the old Mel Bay Rhythm Guitar Method, Berklee Arranging 101, studies with Barry Harris, and an article by Pat Martino that I read back in the 70s. But I tried to present all of these ideas as a unified system and over the years many people have told me how useful they found them. Others have written asking where they could find them. So here they are for your reading pleasure is the complete series:
1999-05 JJG Chord Construction Workshop Part 1 by Rick Stone
1999-08 JJG Chord Construction Workshop Part 2 by Rick Stone
1999-11 JJG Chord Construction Workshop Part 3 by Rick Stone
2000-02 JJG Chord Construction Workshop Part 4 by Rick Stone
I hope that you enjoy these articles. Keep in mind, that these were written about 15 years ago, and through years of teaching these concepts to many jazz guitar students, the ideas have become more refined. More recently I’ve also produced a series of videos demonstrating the concepts.
